HST will hike your hydro bill

Another in a long list of things that will be hit by increased taxes when the HST is applied next year. It will affect your hydro bill.
Right now, natural gas and electricity are not taxed by the PST. So, when the HST comes into effect, it’s believed the average home will see a jump of about $12.
While Terasen and BC Hydro are trying to figure out how soon those savings the provincial government is promising can be passed along to customers, it is mandatory under the BC Utilities Commision that rates are adjusted to reflect costs. But it will take some time and add that onto the fact that Hydro is already expected to seek a rate increase early next year – and there’s no doubt you’ll be paying more in 2010.
