The leader of the B.C. group rallying against the upcoming Harmonized Sales Tax says they have collected enough signatures to force the government to reconsider the controversial tax.
Fight HST leader and former B.C. Premier Bill Vander Zalm told CTV News Friday that his group has reached the 10 per cent threshold in all 85 electoral ridings in the province.
The group took the traditionally Liberal stronghold of Richmond East on Wednesday and hoped to take the 85th and final B.C. riding of Vancouver-Langara by the weekend.
Speaking to CTV News earlier this week, Vander Zalm called on B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell to immediately repeal the tax.
“This is a referendum, and the government doesn’t need to spend another $20 million postponing the thing. They can deal with it,” he said.
But Gordon Campbell maintains the tax will bolster B.C.’s economy by creating “tens of thousands” of new jobs and billions of dollars in new investment.
The petition will be submitted on July 5 and could lead to a number of possible scenarios, including a review in the legislature, go to a referendum – or even trigger a recall campaign.

Gordon Campbell and the Liberal Party have lost the only tool they had left to respond to the NO HST petition – crebility. No matter what mailers they send, what press converences they hold, their ongoing effortrs to control the press – the citizens of BC no longer believe or are listening to them!
Save the money, for it was you Gordo who misrepresented the HST, even before you indicated your intentions just weeks after the last election campaign. To hear you and Colin Hansen now crying about misrepresentation in the aftermath of the storm you created is repulsive.
Do the only credible option left – withdraw the HST in BC.
Your opinion on the HST is no longer valid.
ARROGANCE + DECEIT = DEFEAT
we VOTE NO TO HST.
If they find a way to weasel out of the way of the H.S.T recall, we can enact the BC recall legislation, which would force parliament to allow the riding’s to try to recall their MP’s. I’m not sure how many signatures are required, though I doubt it would be more than 20% or so. Even if it got to parliament the other parties should rip them apart (metaphorically)
It’s sad we are the only province to have recall legislation
I too am disgusted. Listening to Mr. Campbell spout off about alleged misreprentations after justifying the lack of disclosure on HST implementation last election makes me only want to push this initiative harder….if the government feels the electorate is smart to elect them then we have the same intilligence to realize when the government is talking down to us….won’t wash
Good luck BC, we in Ontario are “screwed”
This coward should be recalled along with every other scum bag liberal who wants this HST.
BIGGGGGG NOOOOO TOOO H.S.T…………………………………
WE R ALREADY PAYING TO MUCH
I’d still like to know why Campbell was at the ever elusive BILDERBERG CONFERENCE this month? What else is he up to, it can’t be good!!!
The Bilderberger’s are one world socialists and we have no conservative governments in this country – Stephen Harper and Gordon Campbell are only interested in total control sic: world government – When a major civil servant makes the statements that McFadden of CSIS made jeopardizing his career you know that we are in big trouble democracy wise – and note the run of the mill politicians who screamed loud and long at his statements – methinks their screams tell it all – HST? just the beginning of our fight!
