The anti-HST petition reached a new benchmark this weekend, gathering signatures from 15 per cent of registered voters in all of British Columbia’s 85 ridings.

The campaign reached their goal of 10 per cent in May, meeting the minimum threshold set by Elections BC. In total, the petition has 35 per cent more signatures than required.

“This means that one of every three signatures would have to be discarded in any one of our ridings for the petition to fail,” lead organizer Chris Delaney said.

Although the anti-HST campaign has reached its goal, canvassers will continue to collect signatures until the petition is submitted to Elections BC on June 30, Delaney told ctvbc.ca.

Delaney said that if any one riding has to be dropped, the petition is void. His group will try to fatten the numbers in ethnic communities in particular, where people may have signed against the harmonized sales tax without having registered as voters.

The announcement comes less than week after former energy minister Blair Lekstrom resigned over the HST.

“We think he did the right thing,” Delaney said, who hopes other Liberal MLAs will follow suit.

Fight HST Leader Bill Vander Zalm is calling on Premier Gordon Campbell to cancel the tax before it takes effect on July 1.

“Cancelling it prior to that date would save everyone from having to change their lives to accommodate the tax, only to have to change it all around again when the tax is repealed in the fall,” he said.

Think Gordon should join Blair & resign also. Can’t figure out what he is doing for the people of B.C. except costing them more money.

The Premier should of resigned a few years ago when he was caught drinking and driving in Hawaii !!!! That was a disgrace to the people of British Columbia.

I think Campbell & his Liberals have forgotten who their bosses are & who they work for – The People of BC!! You should listen to your bosses or you could get fired!

People should be more active to say “No HST”.
Please check the locations for signature’s collection and go there. Don’t hope that everything will be arranged without your involvement.
Do it for youself, your parents and your children!

Cambell attended the Bilderberg meeting earlier this month in Spain so watch out because this drunken fool is even more dangerous to us then just his HST.

amazing what you can accomplish with getting a rally cry out, i had been one of the first on FB to push out the news and deception of the crooked government…

amazingly for all the cash paid to get this done it has been a success, i only had word of mouth and -very few- people re-broadcasting my page…

turns out that 6 months of pumping a site takes it to 2500 people signing. not bad for a lil guy who rallied the troops without cash…

89% of Chilliwack residents (well, the ones who read the paper!) are against the HST, while only 9% were for it. Everyone in our family has signed this petition. Let’s get these Liberal idiots kicked out, along with their wretched HST…..that’ll come next. I’ve been furious ever since Gordon Campbell was seen on the news saying “well, I’m just glad the election is four years away” all the while laughing about it…..cocky little peabrain he is. He is not only a nuisance to the people of BC, with an attitude and the nerve to say something like that, he’s a danger to our existence. With him saying something like this, it is obvious he doesn’t care about the citizens of BC. The HST is the last straw with many British Columbians. I smell an early election and his ass getting kicked out of office. GO ANTI-HSTers!!!! We will prevail!

Lib’s, do the right thing and axe the HST. Otherwize there will be a NEW Grass Roots driven Right Wing, Fiscally Responsible Party that will crush you along with the spend heavy NDP in the next election, which may happen more soon than later. When will the people of BC finally have a political party that makes sense? Vanderzalm is starting to Rock the Boat and people want a government that listens to them and executes their wishes. The people have decisively stated “NO HST!”
